WonderFALL Giveaway Hop - Nellie's $29 value

Welcome to the WonderFALL Hop organized by MamatheFox
We're excited to be here and hope you are too!

Here at the Kerr house fall time means it's time to get lots of things cleaned up and ready to put away until spring. We clean everything from the floors up and although it takes a long time we appreciate it all winter as we deal with the mud and other messes that living on a homestead in Idaho during the winter mean.

This fall we are excited to have Nellie's All Natural products on our side as we accomplish our cleaning. We've recently had the opportunity to try out their Laundry Soda and Stain Stick and so far I am very pleased with how they are working.

The Laundry Soda leaves our wash smelling line dry fresh straight out of the washer which is wonderful! I'm excited to continue using it this winter when line drying isn't an option. I also love how little you need in each load as it means that the amazing stockpile of laundry soap that I need to keep on hand doesn't take up nearly as much room.

I haven't had a real good chance to try out the stain stick yet but the little stains I've used it on are all gone. We had lasagna for dinner tonight tho so I have a feeling that if I go check the kids' clothes that I'll find a great example stain to use it on and get photos so stay tuned.

Today I'm excited to be able to give one of you a chance to try out Nellie's Laundry Soda and Stain Stick. Entering is easy, just use the form below. Happy entering!

Bluetooth Headphones Review

One of my goals this year is to spend more time exercising. To complete this task I recently invested in some new headphones so that I can listen to books while I do so and have it be a bit more enjoyable. So far these new headphones are great! I love the case they are in that protects them from getting smooshed in my pocket or purse and the quality is great. They are also one of the first pairs of headphones I've actually found comfortable so that is a big bonus! Here's my video review so you can see what I'm talking about. Well worth the $30 investment! Make sure you check them out on amazon!

No, help me out. What is a good book or podcast that you've listened to recently? I'm quickly working my way through my list and am going to need some suggestions. I'll listen to most anything although paranormal and science fiction are not my favorite. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think I should listen to next!

Tips To Making The Perfect Lemonade

It has gotten cold in Idaho this week. This morning I had to scrape my car windows before I could take kids to school. #sadface Because I'm not quite ready for summertime to end, here's some tips for making the perfect lemonade to get you through a, hopefully, beautiful fall.

  • Start with fresh lemons. I know there are a lot of shortcut ways to make lemonade but there is nothing quite like the real thing. Make sure you take the time to enjoy it.
  • Add some limes. It may seem odd, or maybe you already do this but adding a bit of lime adds a whole new level of flavor to fresh squeezed lemonade.
  • Go light on the sugar. Unless you like really sweet drinks go light on the sugar (or even go without). Good lemons will give you a perfect flavor without the added calories.
  • Skip the ice. While traditional ice may seem like the obvious way to make your lemonade cold I've found that by using stainless steel ice cubes I can preserve the flavor of my favorite lemonade while still getting the cold, refreshing drink that I crave.
  • Add some snacks. I love to have my lemonade with some simple butter cookies or crackers. It's a great way to make that flavor last a little longer.
Now tell me, what's your favorite kind of lemonade? Do you have a secret for making it perfect? Tell us about it. We'd love to try your recipes and/or see some photos of how your spending the little bit of warmth we have left.

She’s still grieving the loss of her mother, and to make things worse, her dad has just married Melanie Harmer, a.k.a. the meanest teacher at Dandelion Hollow Middle School. But on the day Violet and her dad are packing up and moving into the new house they’ll share with Melanie and Melanie’s two children, Violet finds a letter her mother wrote to her before she died, asking Violet to enjoy Christmas, along with a Christmas Wish List—things her mom wants her to do during the holiday season. On the list are exactly the kinds of things Violet doesn’t want to do this year, like Be Someone’s Secret Santa; Give Someone the Gift of Your Time: Volunteer; and Bake Christmas Cookies. Violet shows the letter to her friend Izzy’s Aunt Mildred, who calls a meeting of the Charm Girls, a club Izzy and Violet belong to along with their friends, Daisy and Sophia. Aunt Mildred decides she will give them each a charm to put on their bracelet if they do all of the tasks on the Christmas Wish List, which Violet is not too happy about. She’d rather forget about the list completely, but feels compelled to honor her mother’s wishes. And when Izzy’s crush confides a big secret to Violet, Violet feels like she is stuck between her best friend and the boy who she just might have a crush on, too…

Tips for Keeping the Pet Hair Mess Under Control

I know many of us have beautiful pets that we love dearly and love to have travel with us. However, if you're like us, it seems like anywhere your pet goes it leaves behind a mess of hair - or maybe it's just the number of pets at our house that make it seem this way. Either way, here are some of our best tips for keeping the pet hair under control.

  • Regular brushing: probably the simplest form of control. I know most of you are saying "well duh" but you'd be surprised how many people don't think about how much regular maintenance brushing can help our pets and us.
  • A healthy diet: giving our animals a natural, balanced diet helps them not only feel and look better but also to shed less. We'll be posting more about the homemade pet food we use at the Kerr house soon.
  • Let the professionals help: we take our animals to the professionals about every six months. Although we work hard to maintain it helps to have the professionals help us out every once in a while. This is extra important to us in the spring when the shedding is the worst.
  • Make the messes easier to clean: this is simpler then it sounds. For us it means using things like couch covers to help keep messes off the furniture. It's much easier to through a cover in our washer to get clean then it is to wash the whole couch. We also use rugs over hardwood floors that can be taken outside for a good beating. And in the car we use a waterproof seat cover that is easy to remove and hose down even after we've enjoyed a day in the mud.

What do you use to make it easier to keep your home clean with pets? Do you have a favorite tool for grooming? Tell us about it!

Truck or Family Car

The truck vs family car debate is something that happens regularly at the Kerr house. Right now we have both an SUV and a truck and one of them needs to go, we just need to decide which one. E is convinced that the truck is a must have for hauling things and keeping the mess out of the cars but I much prefer having a good SUV with a cargo liner for hauling those things that may be a little on the messy side. I believe that an awesome cargo liner like this one can be a perfect solution to having a big family and needing to haul manly items without needing two vehicles. I love that it's easy to install, wipes clean, and covers both the bottom and sides of the cargo area. It's perfect for lumber, pets, plants and so much more!

What do you think? Is it better to have a truck just for hauling or an SUV that you can use to carry the family or the groceries or the lumber for your latest project? Tell us what you think today!

And, if you're like me and you think the SUV is a better idea then let me know what tools and strategies you use to keep it clean. Do you use a liner like I do? Do yo have tips for vacuuming? Are their limits to what you haul? Let us know.

secondlifeforvinyl Star Wars 12-Inch Vinyl Wall Clock

Most of you don't know but my parents trained me up well, on vinyl and Star Wars. I mean, you can't go wrong there. My kids on the other hand don't know what vinyl is but we have seen all the classic Star Wars together and loved them. For that reason, I am excited to bring this new Vinyl Wall Clock into my house. Pictures just don't do it justice so check out this awesome video below!

So, here's my question(s) of the day. Do you listen to vinyl? Is it something you have around your home? What is your favorite track? And what clock would you love to have created from vinyl?

hey guys it's me again I got another
package in the mail today and I'm so
excited I just have to let you guys help
me unbox it so I'm gonna flip the camera
around here and show you what I've got
just a second okay so this is supposed
to be a vinyl clock and I was raised in
a family where we listen to records so
for me this is super super cool let's
get it open here it's a super sturdy box
great for gifting or whatever you need
to there package is wrapped super
security which I love to see and this is
the clock it looks like a little leaflet
here how to install the hands which is
good and the hands are here there's
those and look at this clock how cool is
that I'm so excited to get this up and
installed I think see it says Star Wars
there and then you can see their record
and the clock mechanism on the back

Air Plants 101

Who has heard of air plants? That's ok, I hadn't either until plant geek E came home obsessed with them. Basically they are crazy looking plants that get all the nutrients they need from the air around them. This means that other then the occasional misting they don't need anything else to grow making them the perfect plant for a house with small children who like to play in the dirt.

Because E loves these so much I figured they are perfect to put in the place he spends a decent amount of time every day - the bathroom. Plus, if they're in the bathroom the steam should take care of most of their moisture needs so as long as I shower they should need very little other care, and we all hope I continue to shower. Te he. I didn't want to leave the plants just sitting there as it's probably better for them if I keep them out of kids reaches so I found these adorable glass Airariums that will be perfect for the job.

Now that the containers are here, I just need to find the perfect plants to go inside and I'll be able to surprise E one of these days with something he'll love but won't expect. So much fun!

Sleep in Style

Some of you may know that I have a husband that can sleep anywhere. And I mean anywhere! This week I got him a little gift that hopefully will help him complain a little less of neck aches.

This Inflatable Neck Pillow set is perfect for the traveler or just the person who tends to take naps at their desks. It took me a minute to figure out how to inflate it because it does not have your traditional valve but I love the one it does have because it's easy to get out ALL the air and make it flat again. I also like the the pillow is fuzzy and soft meaning that it's almost as good as being curled up with your blankets at home.

The things I don't like are that the fuzzy pillow does make my hear stand on end (but anything fuzzy or silky does that to this girl). I also don't particularly like that the eye mask has a nose cover. I'm assuming to help keep the light from peaking under the mask but it quickly drove me crazy. Other then those two things, which probably won't bother most of you, this is an awesome set and I highly recommend it!

The Cool Down Towel

We've recently had a chance to try out yet another great product. B helped us with this one during his latest cross country race and although I didn't get a good photo during the race he said the OUO Cooling Towel he wore around his neck helped him to stay cool and confidant during the race. Here's a quick video to show you some of the great things about these awesome towels! I love that they come in a three pack so I can give one to each of my kids on days when they are out in the heat and know that they are able to stay cool even when I'm not there to supervise. Yeah for another win!

Because I am a crazy mama and everything must have multiple uses I've also found that these towels make great bibs and are perfect for cleaning up wet messes because they absorb things quickly and hold a lot for the weight. What else would you use them for? And which color is your favorite? I love the pink and blue but hubby is a fan of the grey for work. I wish they had school or team colors as that would be fun but hopefully we'll have more color options in the future.

Perfectly You by Robin Daniels Review & Giveaway

Ivy Nixon is the student body Vice President at Franklin High School. Each year, the school holds a date auction to raise funds for the senior class graduation party, and this year, Ivy’s in charge. Planning the event is a huge task and Ivy is determined to prove she can get the job done right. Unfortunately, she’s still one participant short and her deadline is looming. Andy Walker, her cute but socially reclusive art class table mate, is her last resort. He may not be popular, but he’s funny, talented, and full of surprises. With a makeover and some major social marketing, Ivy is sure he could fetch a decent price at the auction. Andy reluctantly agrees to help, but the more time Ivy spends with him, the more her feelings shift from professional to romantic in nature. To top it off, she’s done her marketing so well, that other girls are starting to notice Andy too. Come auction time, will Ivy be able to let him go to the highest bidder? Or will she find a way to keep him for herself… Content Description: This is a stand-alone YA contemporary romance with companion novels set at the same high school. It contains minor language, innuendo, and crude humor, some steamy kissing, a party scene where underage drinking is taking place, and a brief but tasteful conversation about sex. The author has attempted to write characters who make good choices in questionable situations, in effort to keep the content appropriate for teens. This book contains no sex, written or implied, and no explicit language. Recommended for ages 14 and up.

Excerpt: "Maybe I should do some work, huh? Not all of us can be Picasso," I said, staring down at the picture of my house. Andy analyzed my artwork for a second. "You know, if you added a couple lopsided boobs to your house, you could be Picasso. Picasso always added crazy-looking boobs and eyes." He grinned. "Andy Walker, did you just say the word boob?" I erupted into a fit of giggles. Andy was a lot of things, but crude he was not. "Hey." He threw up his hands, smiling. "Boob is an artistic term when used discussing Picasso. That's common knowledge."

Review: This book was so fabulous! I wanted to laugh out loud the whole time! For me this was the perfect, simple read to brighten my day. Andy and Ivy are a perfect pair and I love the added message reminding you to love people for who they are. It's a great read!

Author Robin Daniels Robin Daniels is a wife, mother of five and avid consumer of books. She loves reading SO much that she was actually grounded from it as a twelve year old. No Joking! Her mom caught her reading when she was supposed to be cleaning, which was a common occurrence. At that point mom took the books and instructed her to go watch TV or play outside like a normal kid. Robin is a sucker for home design shows and magazines, watches way too much Netflix and has a very codependent relationship with with a certain diet soda who’s brand shall not be named. (Though anyone with a similar problem could probably guess which one.)

The Pursuit of Lady Harriett by Rachael Anderson Review

The Pursuit of Lady Harriett by Rachael Anderson When wills clash and hearts collide, who will reign victorious? Termed an Original during her first London season, Lady Harriett Cavendish is beautiful, spirited, and confident, capturing the attention of a great many suitors. Unfortunately, they all failed to capture her attention, and she concluded the season as unattached as she’d begun it. Only weeks prior to her second season, Harriett encounters Lieutenant Christopher Jamison while visiting Tanglewood Manor. Recently returned from war, the lieutenant is everything that Harriett's previous suitors were not. He’s arrogant, ungentlemanly, irritating, and challenges her at every opportunity. When he goes too far, Harriett decides that it’s time to turn the tables on him. But as she sets out to put the lieutenant in his place once and for all, she discovers there is more to him than meets the eye, and when it comes to matters of the heart, she has no control whatsoever.

This is a charming story that was perfect for this mom to read while waiting in the carpool line the first week of school. The pair of Harriett and Christopher made me laugh more then once as they fought to best each other while winning each other's hearts. I highly recommend The Pursuit of Lady Harriet to anyone looking for a wonderful romantic comedy to read. You won't be disappointed!

EXCERPT Harriett looked at what remained of the cake. Appar-ently, he didn’t intend to finish it off after all, so she collected their forks and stood. “Forgive me for saying so, but you look quite done in, Chris. If you do not go up to bed now, you will probably fall asleep here. Only imagine what Mrs. Caddy might say if she discovers you here with the mostly-eaten cake. For your own sake, you ought to retire. I will do my best to tidy things up.” Before she could move away from him, he grabbed her hand and guided her to sit back down, keeping hold of her fingers. “Not so fast, my lady. I meant it when I said that I’m in desperate need of the distraction that only you can provide. Thus far, all I have done is burden you with my troubles.” “I do not feel at all burdened, sir.” Indeed, Harriett suddenly felt breathless and somewhat giddy. The effect this man had on her was something of a wonder. “Sir?” he asked. “I thought we were beyond that.” “I thought so as well, but you only just called me ‘my lady.’” He frowned and blinked as though he hadn’t realized he had. “Forgive me, Harry. I fear my exhaustion has muddled my thinking.” This time, she did not let the name slide. She snatched her hand free and frowned at him. “Obviously it has.” He laughed—not a tired attempt at a laugh, but a real one filled with the richness that warmed her straight through. Only this time, it did not bother her at all. In fact, it felt wonderful, almost like a compliment. “I knew you’d come through for me,” he said, leaning close enough to touch shoulders with her. “You have no idea how much I needed to laugh or how good that felt. I could honestly kiss you right now.” Harriett tried her best not to blush or appear astonished by the suggestion—he had obviously made the comment in jest—but when his smile widened into a devilish grin, she knew she’d failed. He leaned in closer, and his gaze wandered briefly to her mouth before returning to her eyes. She could smell vanilla and lemon and a hint of something else—leather perhaps? A delightful pulse whipped down her arm, and she was hard-pressed not to shiver. “Admit it,” he said. “You have missed me.”

Dog 4-H: A New Beginning

With each new season at the Kerr house we have new challenges and goals. This fall, one of the new things we are starting is Dog 4-H. We showed our rabbits last month at the fair and the kids did really well, and loved it, but one of the animals they were really interested in showing next year is dogs, and since we have three we figured why not. This does however mean that MOM has some work to do. I love our dogs but they can be somewhat naughty and they don't always look like show dogs because, well, at the Kerr house we play in the dirt. Thankfully, we have some new items that we are adding to our routine to help us get ready for showing these crazy mutts.

One of the easiest things we are doing is adding a Salmon Oil Supplement to the dog's diet. Salmon oil is a good supplement to give because it aids your pet's body and mind and helps to keep them in top shape. Their are many benefits to salmon oil including healthy skin, coat, joints, heart, kidney and the development and maintenance of the brain, eyes, and immune system. That means that this one supplement is helping our dogs become healthier and smarter! Salmon oil also promotes weightloss and helps reduce allergies. What an awesome thing and it's so easy to give. Just squirt a little on their food and they eat it right up. So simple!

Although Salmon Oil helps our dogs be smarter they still need to learn a few more manners to compete in the show ring. Our big dog, Avie, can be kinda hard for the kids to control simply because of size so while they practice we are using our new Buddy Trainer Rechargeable Dog Training Collar with its handy remote so I can easily help them out even from across the yard. I love this collar because it is simple to use and has many effective training tools including adjustable vibration and shock levels, audible sounds, and flashing lights (my personal favorite). It's all about safe reminders to be on their very best behavior.

Last, but not least, of our new training tools are these Bully Sticks and Beef Tendons. Made from 100% natural, free range cows, they are filler, antibiotic, and hormone free which is exactly what I want to give to my pets. I love that these treats are simple to break into pieces and put in our training pouches for the kids to use during their sessions and it helps keep the kids and dogs happy. It's a great reward for a job well done!

Now that I've shared some of the new things we're using, what are your favorite dog (or other pet) training tips and tools? I know every pet owner has their own techniques that work for them and I'd love to try out some of your great ideas!

Dog 4-H C

Last, but not least, of our new training tools are these Bully Sticks and Beef Tendons. HVAC For All

If your air conditioner just died on a sweltering summer day or your furnace decides to shut down in freezing temperatures, you are probably looking for a heating and cooling Williamsburg VA repair service. Whether it's an emergency or you are planning a major upgrade, it is worth your time to research several area companies.

Once you narrow down at least three experts, interview each and consider asking the following questions. This is not an exhaustive list, but rather they are enough to get you started on finding the right company.

Are You Licensed, Bonded and Insured?

In most states, there are minimum education and work experience requirements to become a licensed contractor in the heating and cooling profession. Typically, a license is issued after passing a written exam.

In addition to qualifying for a license, HVAC contractors should also have insurance and be bonded. Any contractor bidding to do work in your home should meet or exceed these requirements to protect you against an accidental injury or property damage.

Do You Have a List of References?

Any professional contractor should be able to provide a list of recent customers for you to contact. Call these references for details about the service they received. This enables you to verify if the contractor provided timely and satisfactorily work.

Will You Provide a Written Estimate of Repair Costs?

Installation of a new HVAC system or repairing an old one could cost a lot of money depending on what is wrong. Therefore, you should get a minimum of three written estimates from each contractor.
Costs can vary from one contractor to the next, but this is an important consideration. It is also very important to receive a thoroughly documented estimate in terms of the scope and completion date for the repair or installation project.

Do You Offer a Payment Schedule on Large Repairs?

If your project is a big job, you might be required to make a deposit before the contractor begins. Additional payments as the project progresses may also apply to satisfy the bill. If you have a payment plan, read the fine print so your financial responsibility is clear. Reading the fine print also ensures there are no surprises like hidden fees.

Moving forward, you may want to consider getting a service contract, especially if you are having new HVAC equipment installed. Regular maintenance of your system by an expert helps to improve its efficiency and may also extend its lifespan.
