To start off I am a tree trimmer. I run a brush chipper that operates at 119Db (decibels). Which is like being at a rock concert. I have tried multiple types of ear plugs and though the Plugfones do not cancel the most noise of the chipper it definitely made my work day a whole lot more enjoyable. The carry case was creative and useful. The clarity of the sound was much better than I had hoped. The fact that the Plugfones come with a second type of earplug surprised me. With all the other types of earplugs I have tried I think that the Plugfones are by far my favorite to use when I have the days I want music going as I am getting my job done.
After opening the shipping package I was surprised at the case in which the Plugfones arrived. The plugfones come in a cylindrical case with a screw on cap, a spacer which holds the volume control and the ear plugs/ ear buds, than space under the spacer which held the second type of earplugs. I thought the packaging was creative and useful.
The ear plugs that come already on the earphones are much like the type of ear plugs I have been using recently at work. They are the type in which you squeeze or roll and insert into the ear and they expand. Even with the bud part the plug part holds really well in the ear. The plugs I use at work cut up to 33Db. The first type of plugfones plug cut up to 28Db. The second type of plugs cut up to 23Db.
In Idaho, where I live and work, the wind is regularly blowing. I had the opportunity to talk to my wife while using the plugfones. She commented on how well she could hear me. The noise cancellation part of plugfones exceeded my expectations and hers.
The last feature that I had to smile about was the controls at the end of the cord. Though that are closer to the end of the cord it was nice not to have to reach all the way into the pocket and pull the phone out in order to control the volume or get Google pulled up. The center button of the controls pulls up the voice menu of the phone and you can make calls just by pushing the button. In a near hands free mode it was really nice.
I was somewhat skeptical when the Plugfones came in. I had never heard of earplugs mixed with earphones. Having the clarity of the noise cancellation through the mic and the decibel dampening in the plugs there will be many a days that I will be able to operate in louder situations while still enjoying the music and near hands free situations to make calls to clients and home.

Many people have no problem bringing baby home and letting them share mom and dad's room. In fact, for me it is handy to have baby close by when they are waking up for middle of the night feedings. But there comes a time when mom and dad really want their space back and there are many bonuses to baby spending the whole night in their own room. Here are some tips for making this happen.
Get a good, safe crib. Knowing that your baby is safe in a crib that they cannot get out of and does not have anything harmful in it can help you feel secure in baby sleeping on their own.
Get a good baby monitor. We like an LCD Digital Wireless Baby Monitor. Key features for us include night vision, good sound, and rechargeable batteries. This helps mom and dad be able to check on baby without going inside the room and waking baby. I also like that the video feature helps me to make sure the big kids aren't picking on the baby and/or waking them.
Stay out. If you have a good crib and a baby monitor, one little thing that helps baby be comfortable in their own room is simply for you to stay out. I know this can be hard but if your baby sees that you are nervous and keep checking on them they will feel insecure and be less likely to stay in their own room.
I know these may seem like simple things but they are the tricks and tips that we use to keep our children in their own beds. Having seven children that sleep in their own beds is a must for mom getting a good night's sleep and being 100% for them during the day. Shoes, as far as I'm concerned, during the summers shoes are an only when necessary type of item. In that case, I never wear them. Even when I'm working in the barnyard I tend to be barefoot simply because it's my favorite way to be.
This does create a problem however. Because of my barefootedness, my feet are almost always cracked and dry. Recently however I found a product that is helping to fix that condition for the winter. It's called InstantPeel.

One of the things I enjoy doing as the weather gets colder and I'm forced inside is cross-stitching. It's simple to do, I don't have to do it all at once, and the results are beautiful. Some people may thing I'm old fashioned but for me it's a great way to spend my time. If this is a hobby you'd like to try here are a list of tools you should invest in to get started.
Cloth - a good cloth is essential. I tend to work on white but there are a lot of other options out there depending on what your preference is.
Thread - I like to keep a variety of colors on hand. There are standards, like black and white, that you should always have but it's fun to have a good selection of colors to work with.
Hoop - a wood (or plastic) hoop is not essential but it sure does make the job easier. I like a mid-size hoop that I can hold in one hand but you may like larger or smaller depending on the project.
Needles - again, I like to have a bunch. I tend to leave one needle on each color of thread so that I don't have to spend as much time threading needles. One is enough but the more the marrier as far as I'm concerned.
Scissors - I have a small pair that locks closed that I keep in my needlework bag. Something that either locks closed or has a cover (or both) is ideal but any sharp scissors will work.
Well, for me that's the basic kit. Once you have that you just need a pattern, or to design your own. You may already have most of these things around the house but if you don't you can buy pre-packaged kits to get you started. Happy Stitching! Who's ready for Halloween? I know we're not. This mama has a lot of sewing to do but it will all be worth it in the end. The question at my house is always how am I going to keep the littles occupied while I sew and this year I'm excited that we have some new Halloween movies for them to watch. One of the ones I'm most excited about is ABC Monsters. These little stories are perfect for my preschoolers as they show letters and words that use the letters to make a fun story.

I told you earlier about the new spray nozzle I got for the barnyard but the other big improvement we are making to the watering system is putting a sink in the greenhouse. Yes, I'm a crazy person that grows fresh veggies and other goodies all year round in Idaho, but we love it!
I'm so excited to have a sink in the greenhouse because it will allow me with more flexibility for watering and cleaning up without having to track dirt and mud through the house. It will be my very own little mud room in the barnyard which is much needed. Anyway, the sink isn't here yet but the hose that will be attached is and it's going to be great!
I got an expandable hose so that it doesn't take up too much space but can still reach as needed. I also like that it has a valve on the spray end so that I can turn it off there as needed and, this particular one, comes with a hook that I can use to hold the hose when not in use and keep myself from tripping on it. *Bonus* Anyway, I'm a dork but I'm excited to show you how everything is coming together soon!
I know, I still haven't taken you for a tour of our barnyard but I promise it is coming. We are working on a couple of improvements that I want to get finished before we officially show you around.
One of the things we are doing is upgrading our watering system. At the beginning of the summer E installed a water line from the house to the barnyard to make it easier to water animals which has been nice but with inter coming we are adjusting it a little bit to make it work for us year round. One of the things we are doing is adding a new spray nozzle with a valve so that we can turn the water off and on there. Hopefully this will make it easier for the kids to adjust the spray of the water as they are filling things and not get themselves as wet.
Anyhow, the new nozzle arrived and I'm so excited to get it installed. Hopefully it will be just what we need to get through watering this winter. Ugh! So not looking forward to the cold! So...at the Kerr house we have a no facial hair policy. Partially because E's work has one but mostly because I don't like the feel of facial hair. However, my boys constantly complain that they don't have anything manly in the bathroom. We have princess brushes for the girls and I have all sorts of accessories that live there but there is nothing other than toothbrushes for the boys. Poor kids!
Recently we have decided to remedy that by getting them some personalized combs. We decided to go with beard combs simply because they are small, easy to use, and the price is right. Once I started looking however I found even more things that I like about these little tools. The ones we picked out are made of natural wood which is always a bonus, come with a case that I can personalize for the kids, and are anti-static which if you've ever seen the hair at my house you know we need.
I'm excited to see what the boys think of these. I think we'll end up saving them for Christmas but hopefully they enjoy them as much as we think they will. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It’s simply yummy and perfect for us spending time watching
the game. Rabbit probably isn’t on most
of your menu lists and I’ll be sharing more of the why and how in the near
future, but today I want to share the recipe for a yummy zucchini cake that
pairs perfectly with Dr Pepper for your game day party.
Chocolate Zucchini Cake

½ c. soft margarine
½ c. oil
1 ¾ c. sugar
3 eggs
2 c. grated zucchini
2 ½ c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
½ c. buttermilk
5 Tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. soda
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp cinnamon
Mix margarine, oil, sugar, and eggs. Add vanilla. Mix flour,
cocoa, soda, salt, and cinnamon. Add the mixture alternately with buttermilk.
Add zucchini. Pour into greased and floured 10x13 inch pan. Bake at 325 degrees
for 40-45 minutes.
