Rodent Control Methods for Homeowners

Nobody wants to deal with a rodent problem in their home. Once you begin to notice signs of a rodent invasion you need to enlist rodent control in Columbus. Rodent infestation can quickly get out of hand and create unnecessary worry and expense for homeowners. The best way to control rodent populations is to prevent them from entering your home in the first place.
Sanitation Control Methods
Rodent proofing your home doesn't have to be expensive or time consuming. There are simple things that you can do every day to prevent these pesky creatures from taking over your home. Sanitation efforts are the easiest way to deter rodents. Rodents, like mice and rats, only want to be in homes that are going to provide them with food and shelter. You can keep these creatures out of your house by making sure that you do not leave food lying around. Keep you food tightly sealed in plastic containers and do not leave food out overnight. This includes dog and cat food. Only leave out the food when your pets are eating and then put it away. This is actually healthier for your pets, too.
No Vacancy
Don't provide mice or rats with free shelter. Rodents love to make nests in places like compromised Christmas tree boxes, opened bags of grass seed, and any type of cardboard box. If you use your garage, basement, or attic to store household items, make sure that you use plastic containers. Mice and rats will have a harder time penetrating these types of containers than flimsy, edible cardboard boxes. You also want to make sure that you do not leave newspapers or other trash lying around tempting mice and rats. Once you provide shelter for these creatures they will begin to multiple. It is much easier to get rid of one mouse than a whole litter.
Outside Maintenance
Keep the outside of your house in tidy condition, too. This means trimming your bushes and getting rid of overgrown landscaping. Wood piles make perfect homes for rodents. To avoid a problem it is advised that you elevate the woodpile at least 18 inches off the ground. If you follow these suggestions, rodent control in Columbus should not be a problem for you.
