Mamma Chia Anytime Magic + Giveaway

With back to school in full swing, our kids start Tuesday, we are frantically trying to get things finished up so they have everything they need. For mom that means there is extra running to do and for most of us, this is just the start. If your kids go to a charter or private school like mine do you will most likely be responsible for transporting them and that means you'll be racking up hours in the car over the next eight months.

Last year, our first year with a child in school full time, I found out that I was a lot more tired, even if I wasn't doing any more than usual. We were finally able to link that to me not getting good enough nutrition so this year we're working to make sure that doesn't happen again. To help with that I'm putting together a box of yummy snacks to keep in the car that I can have (and probably share with the kids) as I'm running around with the kids. The trick has been finding things I like, that don't need to stay cool - chocolate is not an option *sigh*, but won't be hurt if they freeze either.

One of the things I am most excited to have in my box are Mamma Chia's new Chia Squeeze Vitality Snacks. If you haven't tried these yet add them to your next shopping list! These snacks look just like the squeeze pouches our kids all love but they are made for an adult. Each package contains organic chia seeds and organic fruits and/or vegetables for a 70 calorie, no sugar, snack on the go. Flavors include Apple Cinnamon, blackberry Bliss, Green Magic, Mango Coconut, Strawberry Banana, and my personal favorite, Wild Raspberry. Other bonuses you get with the Chia Squeeze include, 1,200 mg of Omega-3s, 4g of fiber, and 2g of protein. Are you excited yet?

I've had these in my mama stash for about two weeks and they are an amazing go to! I get a full tummy and I'm not grabbing whatever cookies are on the counter yet I'm still getting a sweet snack. It's awesome! If you're ready to try out these amazing treats I'm excited to announce that we've got a great giveaway for a package of Mamma Chia products here! To enter simply fill out the form below. But, if you can't wait, go check out where you can find a delicious treat today!

Canine Pancreatitus: A Serious Disease in Dogs

The pancreas in both dogs and humans plays an important role in the digestive process. Pancreatic swelling or inflammation can cause serious consequences. For this reason, pet owners should become very familiar with the symptoms of pancreatitis in dogs. They must be prepared to identify any problems with their pet and get the animal to a vet quickly at the onset of these symptoms.

Pancreatitus Is a Common Canine Ailment

Pancreatitis appears mainly in adult animals. Females have a higher rate of occurrence than males. Studies show through histologic (microscopic tissue) studies of canine populations that fully 64.4% of all dogs have manifested. This makes problems with the pancreas one of the most common canine diseases. In addition, because the condition can be terminal, this disease is very serious.

Causes

Some factors include the following:

  • Hyperlipidemia (excessive amounts of fat in the blood)
  • Hypercalcemia (excessive amounts of calcium in the blood)
  • General metabolic disorders
  • Particular drugs and toxins, including antibiotics and certain diuretics
  • Concurrent diseases, including hypothyroidism, Cushing’s syndrome, and Diabetes Mellitus. Miniature Schnauzers are vulnerable to condition known as idiopathic hyperlipemia
  • Contaminated water or food
  • Viral or bacterial infections
  • An unhealthy diet, including foods high in fat and greasy people food from table scraps

Yorkies and Schnauzers appear to experience the highest incidence of pancreatitus.

Symptoms

Because the root causes of pancreatitus are not well-known, pet owners must focus on detection rather than prevention. Owners can become well-versed for the warning signs of this serious disease in order to react quickly at the onset. These symptoms can include:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fever
Pancreatic disorders can be mild or acute. Pancreatitus in the acute stages can result in shock within just a few hours. This severe form of the disease is symptomized by the abrupt onset of severe pain in the abdomen and vomiting. This can lead to severe dehydration, which can lead to hypovolemic shock in the form of weak peripheral pulses and tachycardia.

Unfortunately, these symptoms also indicate a variety of other serious diseases. This can make it difficult to diagnose. Once an owner brings his animal to the clinic, the vet can examine the animal and palpitate the abdominal region for any abnormalities in the pancreas region. He or she can also take a blood test, and look for elevated lipase or amylase levels. A new test examines lipase immuninol reactivity for confirmation. A vet can also use radiography or ultrasonography to examine the pancreatic region, and look for swelling or inflammation.

Treatment

Veterinarians treat this disease by halting the workload on the pancreas. This means stopping the digestive process. Animals are given no food by mouth for several days in order to stop the need for the pancreas to manufacture digestive enzymes. Instead, they are fed intravenously. In acute cases, this process is often performed in a hospital.

Long-term Care

After treatment, dog owners must be vigilant in order to prevent a recurrence. They can do this by putting their pets on low-fat diets, limiting the meal portions, and eliminating table scraps. Dogs can be put on a fat-restricted diet, given 3-4 meals a day, and set on a proper regime of exercise. This will help owners keep their pets healthy and happy for a long time to come.

What's Your Wedding Style?

This is a Fashionista Event and a promotional item was provided to me by Coupons.com. Hosts for this event are Still Blonde after all these Years and ModlyChic.

When planning a wedding there are so many things to think about! Weddings can be very different and yet, each should be the perfect day for its own special couple. I was one of the very lucky people who got to have two weddings. My husband and I were married in a church in 2008 and then had the privilege of renewing our vows and being sealed for time and eternity in a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 2009. Both were beautiful days and memories that I do not soon plan to forget.

Although I have had two wedding days I still enjoy sharing other people's special days with them. Since I was married, I have had the chance to share wedding days with three of my sibling-in-laws and hope to share more special days with my siblings.

Attending weddings is a great way to get a feel for what you want on your wedding day. You can attend weddings for friends and family or watch weddings on TV or via the internet. There are lots of great shows out there specifically about weddings and many more that have episodes dedicated to the wedding day. It's so easy to get a sneak peak at how different wedding options work out and oftentimes you also get tips on how much you should expect to pay and/or how to get great deals while you're watching. For example, TLC aired Anna Shannon's wedding on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo during the August 14, 2014 episode. Can you believe she only paid $212 for that beautiful dress with Light In The Box coupons?

Light In The Box is an amazing store with something for every style and every occasion. So now I have you wondering right. Are you ready to hear how you can get a great deal on wedding items from Light In The Box? Well, here are two coupon codes to help get you started.

$12 off $100 with code HoneyBoo12
 $24 off $200 with code HoneyBoo24

For other great deals, don't forget to check out the Flash Sale section. They have great items for weddings and for everyday so everyone will want to check it out!

Happy Shopping! And may your day be as bright as Anna's!

PST - don't forget to share your favorite style from Light In The Box with us so we can share in the amazing deals!

Return to Love by Kathleen Shoop + Giveaway

Summary: Sweet Romance… Fresh off their whirlwind nuptials and unexpected, but joyous pregnancy, April and Hale Abercrombie are gleeful about their life together. But, while Hale is serving his country in Vietnam, he receives news of the loss of their newborn daughter.

Back home on leave, Hale can barely wait to hold his wife. Their reunion is passionate and their physical connection, strong and soothing. His embrace, his touch, and his love are just as perfect as April remembered. But nothing, not even Hale, can ease April’s heartache.

Hale stumbles through his attempts at convincing her that their future will be rich and full of wonder despite their loss. His good-hearted, but take-charge approach causes her to retreat. Even in grief, April recognizes Hale’s earnestness, yet she can’t help but distance herself from him. With only a short time before Hale must return to war, the couple begins to understand that hope starts with them—that the bliss they once knew will return only if they are willing to trust again.

Set on the beaches of the Outer Banks, Return to Love is the second book in the Endless Love series. Book one, Home Again, was named a finalist in the 2014 Next Generation Indie Book Awards.

My Thoughts: I LOVED this book! In fact, I was able to read both books in the series and spent about 24 hours straight getting through both of them because I couldn't put them down. This is a book that is slightly painful because of the story of the stillborn child but it is a pain that many of us can relate to as we have experienced the loss of a loved one. If you're looking for a great book to read with a very uplifting ending then this would be a great choice to add to your bookshelf!

1969-- Set on the shores of the Albemarle Sound, April Harrington has fond memories of summers at her family home, Bliss. After her fairytale wedding disintegrates, it becomes her refuge—the one place where she can attempt to pull the unraveling threads of her life back together. Unbeknownst to April, the stately house has been neglected in recent years. The once-sturdy roof is leaking in a few dozen places, and the wharf is rotting. Nothing is the same as she remembers. Nothing except for Hale, a Viet Nam pilot who is haunted by a dreadful secret, and who is also her brother’s best friend, a brother killed in the conflict that is tearing the country apart.

In Hale’s presence, April finds familiarity and solace. They share grief for a lost loved one, and from the comfort of Hale’s arms, passion blooms. Yet, April’s future is unresolved. Her wealthy, arrogant almost-bridegroom wants her back and the ghosts of Viet Nam are whispering to Hale. Can they find new love in an old treasured home, the kind of affection and trust that lasts forever?

Octonauts Deep Sea Mission

I am so ready for school to start! Anyone else? It seems like the longer the kids are home the harder it is to keep them all going without fighting and still get the things done that I need to. Because of this we have been watching far more TV than is usually acceptable at our house and some of it is certainly better than others. This week we had the chance to test out the new Octonauts Deep Sea Mission and it was one of the kids favorite choices.

Is it educational? Yes, this collection keeps up the trend of fabulous Octonauts movies that teach kids about life under the water.

Any dislikes? Yes, I have one son who thought that the Vampire Squid Episode was a little to scary and ran to hide. This would be great for a Halloween party, not so great for kids who are easily frightened.

How do we rate it? 4 out of 5 Stars.

My Favorite Combo From Head to Toes

Everyone has those things that they just love. For me, there are lots of great combinations but here are some of my all time favorites.

5. A snuggly baby + baby lotion
4. A rainy day + a good book
3. Ice cream + homemade fudge sauce
2. Cleanly swept floors + bare feet

and my very favorite combo...

1. Clean sheets + shaved legs + and my freshly showered, smell good husband

Yes, I know, I'm a little bit odd but I'm ok with that and I know that I can't be the only one here who likes to cuddle with their freshly washed husband. There is nothing like the clean smell of soap and a hint of man at the end of a long and stressful day. There is a huge difference however in soap smells! There are a few that I like but my all time favorite is Old Spice.

Old Spice is the brand my husband used when we were dating and its the one he still uses today. There is just something about the scent that is amazing and I love how it lasts and I can still catch a hint of it at the end of a sweaty workday. My favorite news is that I can now enjoy my favorite spicy scent even more since Old Spice has expanded from Deodorant and now also carries body wash + 2-in-1 conditioner in all of my favorite scents.

This year, as you get ready for the stress of back to school try taking some relax time with your special someone and make sure that they are prepared by getting them their favorite Old Spice product (you can find some amazing savings here - expires 9/30/14). It will be worth every little bit of time and effort you spent to make it happen.

P.S. Old Spice hosted a poll that found a bunch of great combos that aren't on my list and created some great videos to go with. Check out their list for some great laughs (my favorite is below) and then let us know your favorite with a comment below.

Woman of Courage by Wanda Brunstetter

Courage - The ability to do something that frightens you.

As I've been thinking about the subject of courage it occurred to me that this is a term we tend to use to describe young men. This seems odd to me because as a woman I know that it often takes courage for me to face my tasks on a daily basis. Not because they are hard, but because they quickly become overwhelming ... and that frightens me.

One thing that I know helps me get thorough my days is learning about other peoples' lives and the trials that they had to face. As I read about how other people use their courage and faith to get through the rough times it is encouraging to me and helps me get through my bad days a little bit easier.

Recently I had the chance to read Wanda Brunstetter's Woman of Courage and thoroughly enjoyed it. The heroine, Amanda, is a Quaker woman who had her fiance leave her at the alter and decided to travel as a missionary to the western Native Americans. This trip ends up being quite the journey as she faces the loss of her father, death, capture and much more. You will love reading about her journey in faith, love and hope to find a people that are truly hers!

They began by renovating porch furniture and mattresses in the 1940's, to a modern manufacturing facility located in Lansing, Michigan. They've been in business close to 70 years and have brought forth an amazing selection of products that will give you a great night's sleep. Your comfort is their business! Each bed is "hand-crafted" and they always strive to provide the best value for each customer, whether at $299 or $2,999. They carry two basic mattresses the TruEssence and TruSlumber. The only difference between the two beds is the core foam layer, and the TruSlumber bed does not have a base layer of foam. This helps reduce the overall height of the bed, which makes it perfect for children, bunk beds, and other situations where a thinner mattress is required! However the unsurpassed quality remains the same in both!

French Toast Uniforms for Back to School + Giveaway

School is right around the corner, in fact, we are registering this week, and that means it's time to finish up our back to school shopping. This year the school supply list is getting completed thanks to the great sales at some of our favorite retailers but we have been having a harder time filling our school clothing needs.

This may seem odd, but since my children go to a charter school and wear uniforms it can sometimes be hard to find appropriate clothing in our town. That is why I am so thankful for French Toast and their amazing uniform selection!

I just got B two new pairs of pants, a shirt, and a belt to help get him started with school and I am very impressed. The clothing is top notch, the prices are reasonable, and everything is built so that he has room to grow so it should last us all year.

My favorite piece that we received was the Adjustable Waist Double Knee Pants. Dress style pants tend to wear out quickly when they get the abuse of active children day after day and these are the sturdiest dress pants I think I've ever seen (aside from me making them myself). I'm so excited to see these last and hopefully have them make it through multiple kids.

If you're looking for great uniforms or special occasion clothing then French Toast is the place to go. Today I am excited that they have agreed to allow us to giveaway for two tops and a pair of bottoms of the winner's choice to one Kerrific reader to help with their back to school list. To enter, please use the form below. Good luck!

Welcome to Its All About The Deck Even Sweepstakes

We've been homeowners now for about four three years. It's been a great experience for sure and I'm so glad that we ended up buying instead of renting again. I love knowing that our money is going somewhere good and that when we make little improvements I don't have to ask permission. What is the thing you enjoy most about your home?

DeckScoutingShot3 (1)
Organized by Mom Powered Media and Purple Monster Coupons
Hosted by: Enter Here Canada
Homeowners who enjoy taking it easy on their decks will find a new line of Thompson’s® WaterSeal® Waterproofing Stain that makes deck care just that -- easier on them. The new line, at The Home Depot, offers multiple features that make it easier to choose and use the right deck stain.
“From the new packaging to the formula that’s inside, this line-up offers multiple innovations to help homeowners get great performance with less effort,” said Mike Kozlowski, Director of Marketing for the Thompson’s® WaterSeal® brand. “This is the most complete exterior stain line that we have ever offered.”

Along with powerful waterproofing protection from the industry leader and rich, beautiful color all in one coat, the new stain delivers homeowner-friendly features like:
· Increased durability for a better looking deck, longer. Elastomeric polymers help the dry stain expand and contract with the wood during temperature fluctuations, reducing cracking and peeling. Advanced acrylic polymers greatly improve resistance to scuffing and marring. Waterproofing protection exceeds industry standards, while the coating resists mildew and UV damage.
On horizontal surfaces like decks, the Transparent Stain is guaranteed for three years, the Semi-Transparent Stain is guaranteed for four years and the Solid Stain is guaranteed for five years.
Finished Deck4_Retouched (1)
· Time-savings that start in the store! Pigment suspension technology keeps the color evenly dispersed in the container; there’s no need to put the can on the paint shaker and no waiting at the paint counter. The customer can just “grab and go.”
Back at home, the formula can be applied to damp wood so the project can begin soon after cleaning and be finished faster (most deck stains require a 48-hour wait between cleaning and staining the wood.)
· Latex-based formulas provide soap and water clean-up.

THE WHOLE PACKAGE
Even the packaging of the new Thompson’s® WaterSeal® Waterproofing Stain is easier to use. The product comes in the familiar, traditional square Thompson’s WaterSeal package that consumers prefer. Research conducted for the brand proves that consumers find round cans messy, hard to close, hard to carry because the wire handle cuts into your hand and hard to store because the lid can pop off.
Thompson’s Water Seal Waterproofing Stain is available in the five most popular colors; colors are Acorn Brown, Harvest Gold, Maple Brown, Sequoia Red and Woodland Cedar. Each color is available in three opacities (Transparent, Semi-Transparent and Solid), and the packages feature a sliding-scale graphic with a marker that indicates if that particular formula will show “Most Grain,” (Transparent), “Medium Grain” (Semi-Transparent) or “Least Grain” (Solid.) This provides the user with as much information in store as possible so that the right choice is made the first time. At The Home Depot, the five transparent colors come in one and five gallon sizes; the semi-transparent and solid colors are available in one-gallon containers.

Win 1 of 5 "Deck Care Kits", each valued at $120+. The package includes 1 case of Deck Cleaner and 1 case of Waterproofing Stain (4 gallons in each case). Winners choose stain colour!
