Fresh Fluff Giveaway Hop - Giggle Life Diapers

It's been a while since I did many cloth diapering posts here on Kerrific. Partially because we've now been cloth diapering for over 4 years straight (holy cow!) and partially because I have been spending quite a bit of time finding the perfect diaper for F. She is quite a bit different from my boys, besides the obvious, she has an extra sensitive bum and is very tiny, a whole 18 lbs at 13 months old, and her diapering needs seem to be different from my boys.
One thing I have learned that helps her tremendously is to keep her in bamboo diapers. We were recently sent a bamboo diaper from Giggle Life diapers to try on her and it's work really well. The diaper is a one size diaper but it seems to fit her well and I can even leave it unsnapped, although having it on the medium setting seems to work best. As you can see it is snug all the way around, including the legs which is our hardest area to fit.
After using this diaper for a few weeks I can certainly say that is is a great addition to any stash. The diaper holds up well and still looks very nice. It came with one bamboo insert which works great for now although we may want to add a second insert as F gets bigger and wets more.

Today we are excited to give you a chance to win your very own Giggle Life diaper during the Fresh Fluffy Giveaway Hop. Use the simple form below to enter and then make sure to scroll down and enter all the other great giveaways! Good luck!

HALO SleepSack Early Walker + Giveaway: The Perfect Birthday Gift

Safe sleep is so important with young children. That is why at the Kerr house we use HALO SleepSacks to keep our kids warm and safe. Baby F's birthday falls at exactly the right time of year to gear her up for fall so that's exactly what we did. HALO sent us an amazing SleepSack Early Walker for the occasion and she is loving it!

F is at the lowest weight (17 lbs) for this style of SleepSack and it is a little big still but she loves it more than any other SleepSack we have because it is easier for her to move around in. As you can see, F is quite comfy in her SleepSack. It works great for her to sit, climb, and cuddle plus keeps her warm.

I love the lightweight fabric of the SleepSack we were sent because she can wear it year round although I do wish they had the micro-fleece sleep sacks in her size as we woke up to show this morning and I have a feeling we will need all the warmth we can get this winter.

In celebration of F's birthday HALO has generously offered to give one Kerrific reader a SleepSack Early Walker or Big Kid of their very own for this winter. To enter, please use the simple form below. Good luck!

Home to Heather Creek by Kathleen Bauer + Kindle Paperwhite Giveaway

heathercreek-bloggerbuttonGuideposts Books is thrilled to announce their brand new series, Home to Heather Creek, by Kathleen Bauer. The first two books, Before the Dawn and Sweet September, launch this month and Guideposts Books is celebrating with a Paperwhite Kindle Giveaway!

I was privileged to receive a copy of both Before the Dawn and Sweet September and I loved them both! The characters living at Heather Creek are an interesting sort. The family, Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle, and three grandchildren make up an unusual family that has been thrown together during tragic circumstances. The farm is supposed to be a place to heal but the question of whether the family can work together to do so has yet to be proven.

I just loved my adventure with this crazy family. There was never a dull moment and almost always something to laugh about as you follow this unconventional family during their first year together!

One winner will receive:
  • A Paperwhite Kindle
  • Before the Dawn and Sweet September by Kathleen Bauer
Enter today by clicking one of the icons below. But hurry, the giveaway ends on October 5th. All winners will be announced October 7th HERE.

Boost Your Weight Loss Efforts with These Tips

While eating right and exercising can help you to steadily lose weight over time, there are a number of small steps that you can take to boost your weight loss efforts in no time. Comprehensive online wellness stores and coaching sources like, heartmathstore.com, can offer inspiration on helpful weight loss products that may also be available to you.

Track Your Progress

From tracking your weight and daily diet log to writing down your goals and tracking your progress over time, it is important to get everything down on paper. Acknowledging your mood, goals, and obstacles will allow you to review them and monitor your progress over time. This will also allow you to more easily determine what is working and what isn't.

Easy Substitutions

Did you know that soda is one of the largest sources of calories in most American’s diets? While diet soda is a better option than it's sugary substitute, there are still much healthier options that won't sidetrack your weight loss efforts. Simply cutting one can of soda per day can save around 1,000 calories per week. There are also a number of bad side effects associated with drinking both traditional and diet soda. Reach for water instead and aim to drink six to eight glasses of water every day.

Learn to Manage Stress

Stress can lead to emotional eating and weight gain, along with a number of other problems. Learning to manage your stress can improve your productivity, weight loss efforts, sleeping patterns, and overall health.

Readjust when Necessary

When you stick to one thing, you may experience a weight loss plateau. By keeping your body guessing, you can more easily and quickly achieve noticeable results. For instance, alternating cardio and weight training days can help to strengthen and tone your body in much less time.

Stores like heartmathstore.com can help you to achieve inner balance by focusing on all aspects of your life for better results. It may also be beneficial for you to work with a weight loss coach so that you can adjust your weight loss plan, whenever it is not providing the results you need.

Custer's Last Battle by Paul Goble

So I got this book thinking it would be a fun book for B and I to read together during our daily reading time. Unfortunately it is a little advanced for him, I'm thinking like second to fourth grade reading level so for now it is going in the gift box for use at a later date.

I did however read the book myself and it is nicely put together. It tells the basics of the Battle of Little Bighorn while keeping it simple enough for a young reader to understand. As someone who loves history I look forward to sharing this book with my kids once they are a bit older. In the meantime, I will enjoy looking at the beautiful pictures.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Learning with Alphabet Flash Cards

With B starting school this year our family has had to slowly adjust to a new schedule. The hardest part of that is that C really wants to go to school too (this is the first time the two of them have spent time in separate activities) so we are slowly creating our own school time at the house. For the last week we have been practicing our letters using Alphabet Flash Cards.
It is amazing how many activities we can do with simple flash cards. We have drawn the letters. Found the letters in books and on signs. Practiced letter sounds. And found items around the house that use letter sounds. It has been lots of learning fun and both of the boys and I have enjoyed our school time with these amazing educational tools.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Keeping Your Mouth Healthy and Clean

Smile! Cheese! Oh, the ways to show a big grin. Each person has a unique, beautiful smile; thankfully the ways to care for those smiles are not as diverse. The dentists at Drake Dentistry and other such clinics will tell you that the best way to care for your smile is to follow the guidelines recommended by the American Dental Association or ADA.

Brushing

When you hear something quite a bit the idea can become mundane and lose importance, and like other things, brushing is one of those topics you may hear about over and over again. There is a reason why you hear about brushing so much, it is super important. Your mouth needs to be healthy not only so you can chew up that nice juicy steak or take a big bite of a delicious green apple, but so your overall health can be positive as well. Did you know that the health of your mouth can affect your heart, a pregnancy, and even diabetes? So, when you are considering taking the time to brush after lunch, do it! In fact, you should brush three times a day.

Flossing

While you may have brushing down pat, you may not think that flossing is important or worth your time. You brush really well, you brush after every meal, so why floss? Flossing gets the food particles that snuggle down in the spaces between your teeth. While you might think that nothing could possibly hide in those small, little cracks, you would be wrong. This is the secret of ‘sugar bugs’ (the bacteria that will eat away your teeth). They nestle down in between your teeth and eat away at the enamel while you brush away thinking you do not need to floss. You should floss after every meal.

Cleanings

The last thing you have heard over and over again by professionals like those at Drake Dentistry is to go in twice yearly for a dental cleaning and check up. Yes, it is a pain to take time out of your schedule to go in, but just get it done. It is important for your health.

It seems however that some people are not as they appear and Glynna and her children must decide who is truly important and who is up to no good. This is an amazing story that you will want to check out. I read it almost in one setting because I simply couldn't put it down. Thanks for another awesome read Mary!

Take Charge of Your Life with a Bear Coat

Where are you going with your life? Have you set any goals lately? Where do you see yourself ten years from now? Life can only be lived in the present. You can only learn from the past and try to anticipate the future. However, it is better to just be present and have a good time. So many people make the error of regretting past mistakes. Yes it is appropriate to feel bad when you mess up and hurt others. Sadly, it doesn't help you or the victims of your neglect when you spend your whole day sitting around moping. Most of the time people hurt each other because they are selfish. A driver feels like he has superior skills and can drive drunk with no problems. That type of selfish behavior can lead to tragedy. A drunk driver cannot reverse the damage they have done. However, they can aspire to change their ways and make the world a better place.

Escape from Your Old Reality

Many people feel like they need a fresh start. What better way to start your journey towards living in the present than making up for the past. Go out and try to do a good deed for every person in your life that you've ever wronged. Too many people suffer from a victim’s mentality. They blame anything and everything for their situation. Escaping from the mental prison of the victim’s mentality can lead to emotional growth. This can lead to growth in all areas of life. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, put on a bear coat, and get to work.

Face Your Problems Head on Like a Bear

While a bear coat is probably the funniest prop from a comedy show you could ever own, it is a symbol of much more. The bear is powerful and majestic. It lives a life from which many people could learn. Keep things simple. Don’t regret the past. Take what you need and help the ones to which you are closest. Face your problems head on by dropping the victim’s mentality and becoming one with your inner bear.

Overnights at Grandma's with Kelty Sleeping Bags

With the holidays fast approaching (really, isn't it still May?), that means it's about time to start thinking about sleep overs at Grandma's house again. It has kinda become a holiday tradition to go to Grandma's for Christmas and spend the week with aunts and uncles there. The kids always have lots of fun and although it is hard to travel for the holidays I think the memories they are making are totally worth it.
This year, F will be taking her new Kelty Big Dipper 30 with her snuggle in at Grandma's house. She got this amazing bag for her birthday from Kelty and we both just love it! *note: photos are taken with C, he's better at holding still*
I picked out this sleeping bag to try because of it's size and temperature ratings. We're in Idaho so it's important that wherever we go my kids stay warm and safe and that means that they each need an appropriate sleeping bag. The Big Dipper 30 is a perfect choice for us because F can use it now and continue to use it until she's a teenager. Since I'm only 5'8" I could even borrow this bag if I really needed to (it's made to fit up to 5'4"). I just love getting things that are going to last my kids a long time. It's well worth the investment!

After all that the other thing I love about this sleeping bag is how easy it is to use. The bag has a hood (with adorable fur for a bonus) to keep kids tucked safely inside. One neat thing is that the back of the hood has a pillow pocket so you can take your pillow camping and keep it clean too.

While E was helping me get pictures of the Big Dipper 30, one thing he mentioned was how easy it is to roll up and stuff into the bag. Most traditional sleeping bags that I have seen stuff into the small, round end of the bag but the Kelty sleeping bag stuffs through the long side which makes it much easier to get in. An added bonus for a kids bag for sure!
I am in love with our new Kelty sleeping bag and recommend any parent looking for a good child's sleeping bag stop by Kelty and check out their selection!

My Brest Friend

Memo: Having babies is hard on mom's body!

I know, this may seem silly, and obvious to say but it's the truth and I think it is something that a lot of moms don't realize until everything is said and done. I know that in the moment I just do what needs to be done and don't stop to think about it until afterword. That is certainly the case with nursing for me. Yes, breastfeeding my babies is wonderful and I wouldn't do anything else but it's also really hard on my body and sometimes I have to pay the price.
Fortunately, there are some great tools out there for nursing moms and so now the price isn't quite so high. Thanks to my new My Brest Friend nursing pillow I can put a little less wear and tear on my body and still give my baby my very best.
This pillow is amazing and works really well for me. The biggest thing that I love is that the pillow does wrap all the way around my back and gives my back, the part that tends to get the most frustrated with my breastfeeding habits, a little bit of extra help.
This is an amazing breastfeeding tool that you'll want to make sure you have as a new mom. If you're like me it will save you hours of pain and frustration because of everything that you can't do thanks to your nursing posture. Make sure you check out My Brest Friend and get this amazing pillow on your baby registry today!

Birthday Bed from KidKraft

I don't know about you but for me it is always a struggle to figure out what to get my kids for their birthdays. F has been a huge problem because I feel like, after three kids, we have so many toys she can play with and she doesn't really need anything. This year for her birthday we decided to do things a little differently and get her fewer toys and more things that will be useful. One of those things was a toddler bed from KidKraft.
I just love the Raleigh Bed in White that KidKraft sent us for her birthday gift. It looks great in her room now and will be even better once I get the walls painted and the curtains up. E put the bed together for me and he said it was relatively simple to do. The instructions were easy to follow and KidKraft packaged everything so that it was easy to find when he needed it. He did mention that you should read the instructions and follow them or you may have to back up and redo what you've already have together.
As far as the bed goes, F isn't quite ready to sleep in it yet but she loves climbing on it to play and it is just the right height for me to feel good about letting her explore without worrying too much about her falling and getting hurt. The big brothers also love having the bed around to lay on and have slumber parties with their sister.
I am so glad we decided to get a bed for F's birthday. It really was a perfect birthday gift because it's something we would have needed anyway and it's not another toy to add to my already overflowing toy room. A Kidcraft toddler bed is a great idea for first birthdays and I recommend this to other parents who are looking for a perfect birthday gift for their one year old!

Back to School With Allergies

Back to school has been a little different this year at the Kerr house, mainly because this is the first year that we've had a child in school. This means that I have a whole new set of things to deal with including taking them to school, picking them up, helping with homework, and teaching my son to care for himself when I'm not around. Its somewhat strange but with week one almost over I feel like we're starting to get the hang of things.

One thing we have had to deal with at school that is new is allergies. I have allergies but I've been dealing with them so long it's just part of life. Teaching my kids to deal with allergies is something that we are still working on. The worst time of year is almost here in Idaho, harvest season. E thinks it's funny he can tell when harvest starts just by looking at our faces. For the rest of us it tends to be a little painful so today I wanted to share some tips to help you survive harvest, and the rest of the school year, with as little allergy trouble as possible.

Kerr's Top 10 Allergy Tips

1. Be sure to have Children’s Claritin, the #1 pediatrician-recommended non-drowsy allergy brand, on hand!

2. Multi-vitamins are building blocks to having a strong immune system. Make taking a multi-vitamin part of your child’s daily routine.

3. Let there be light! Mold doesn't like sunlight, so try to keep your curtains open during the day. Should be easy during the summer months!

4. Did you know that most pillows trap allergens, dust mites, and bacteria? Monitor the cleanliness of the pillow your child with allergies sleeps on and replace if necessary. - Note: to avoid flat pillows from washing cover them with a protective cover or make your own.

5. Back to school season means lots of laundry for many moms. Be sure to remove laundry from the washing machine promptly. Allowing wet clothes to sit in the washer means mold can quickly grow there.

6. Monitor pollen counts and adjust outdoor before and after school activities accordingly. Dry, windy days can be particularly high in pollen.

7. Showering or bathing at the end of the day as opposed to the morning can be helpful in removing allergens from body surfaces and hair.

8. Stay hydrated! Always send your child to school with a bottle of water. Drinking lots of clear fluids through the day can help get rid of toxins and flush out body.

9. Peak pollen production typically occurs in early morning, so try to plan outside activities at other times of the day.

10. Keep cool eye packs on hand. These are perfect for eye allergy symptoms but can also be used for any rash caused by allergies.

As a member of the Children’s Claritin Mom Crew, I receive product samples and promotional items to share and use as I see fit. No monetary compensation has taken place and any opinions expressed by me are honest and reflect my actual experience.

The Power of a Call to Action

When considering where Internet-marketing dollars should be spent, one place that often gets too little attention is that of conversion optimization. Many businesses spend a lot of money working to get visitors to their website on the Internet. However, a visitor to the site does not do any good unless it prompts some people to make a purchase or take some form of action. The process of making changes to the site to improve the actions taken is called conversion optimization. Sometimes business owners try to make a call to action too complicated. A simple “call now” call to action does really well on lead generations for a site where a call is the necessary next step.

The Placement of a Call to Action

One of the key elements in regards to calls to action on a website is the placement of them. For example, most people look for a call to action at the bottom right of a page. Understanding where people look for that makes it easier to know where to put it. Another factor to consider is design of the call to action. A proper call to action should stand out from the page and be easy for anyone to find. This can be done with color background, larger text, etc.

 Test, Test, Test

The best way to improve the conversion rate on a website is to test, test, and test again. By making measured adjustments and then testing, the conversion rate will continue to improve. This improvement happens because there is a deliberate strategy carried out and measured, and then changes made and tested again. By testing all aspects of the calls to action on the site in a controlled manner, the results can be distinctly determined and changes made based on the best combinations. When dealing with a lead generation site, the call to action is often something like “call now” or “fill out this form.” When dealing with calls, it is critical that tracking is put into place to allow proper tracking of online marketing efforts that lead directly to a call. There are many ways to get this done. It is a matter of doing a little research online and making a decision of what to use to accomplish this.

Parenting Memories and Chicken Soup

One of the things I am horrible at is recording special parenting moments. Most the time I feel like I am just running too fast. With F's first birthday one of the goals I am making for the next year is to take the time to stop and record some of the great moments we have together. I love the little things my kids do, the funny things they say, and I know the days of enjoying those things are passing all to quickly. I need to take time to enjoy the little moments more, and I hope you will too.
One of my favorite ways to enjoy the little moments that are a little harder is with Chicken Soup. I recently received a copy of the Chicken Soup for the Soul 20th Anniversary Edition and have thoroughly enjoyed its stories. Since I don't get out much, Chicken Soup is a great way for me to connect with others on parenting and so many other topics. Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I cry and sometimes I just have to share with someone. If you've never read Chicken Soup you should check one out today. I guarantee you'll love what you find inside!

Spa for Ma with Forever Pure

With F's first birthday coming I'm trying to spend a little more time on taking care of myself (mostly to prevent thinking on how fast she is becoming independent). It's been a long time since I regularly enjoyed things like doing my hair and putting on makeup. Thanks to Forever Pure, my new efforts are including a new brand with new colors that I have fallen in love with!

Forever pure sent me some Oil Control Powder Primer and Raspberry Smash lip gloss and I have fallen in love with both of these items! The powder primer has amazed me. Last Sunday I put it on during my makeup routine and then headed to church for three hours. When I got home I took a nap (heaven!) and then spent the rest of the day playing with the kids. That evening I went to touch up my makeup before we had friends over for the evening and when I got to the bathroom I realized I only needed lip gloss because my make still looked perfect. I know the primer made the difference! How amazing is that?

The lip gloss Forever Pure sent me is just as wonderful! I used to have this favorite lip gloss color, and of course about the time I graduated they discontinued it, it was awful but now I have a new favorite! The good news is that not only is the color wonderful but Forever Pure's lip gloss is also a better texture. Most lip glosses either leave my lips way to wet and drive me crazy or aren't moist enough and just emphasize my horribly dry skin and lips. When I wore Forever Pure's lip gloss it went on smoothly and stayed looking nice without drying out my lips. My only complaint is that it was damp enough to catch a bug in it as I was walking to church, darn bug!

As much as I love these items the good news doesn't stop there. Forever Pure's makeup is guaranteed pure and natural ingredients and is gluten free and vegan. What more could you want? How about a giveaway?
