She's Growing Up + Giveaway

Snuggles with Baby #UltraHug

There is nothing more special then spending time with your little one. I can't tell you how often I have looked at my older children and wondered where the time has gone. I wish I could make them small and cuddle with them again. Thankfully we live in an age where we can preserve these memories with photos.

Now I'm not the best at photography, but I still have a ton of really fun photos to remember my kids and our fun times with. The only way I generally get in the photos is if we're taking selfies, an experience in itself. As my photos scroll through on my screensaver I can see a whole line of great memories we have created as a family. We love to participate in activities together and there are so many great ones.

I've got photos of us at home, in the yard, at church, but one of my very favorites is this photo of the girls and I at the local Farmer's Market. This particular photo was taken just after baby G joined our family last summer. It was one of our first trips out and the kids and I had a blast at the market! For us the Farmer's Market is a great place to meet friends, try new things, and enjoy a sunny Saturday morning. My kids favorite part is always getting a free sample of popcorn. We also enjoy learning about the animals and fruit and vegetable products that are there. All of the vendors love sharing their knowledge and it's a great way to see unique foods and learn how to cook them from the experts but my very favorite part is that I love seeing all the beautiful crafts that can be found there. There is one lady often there that makes beautiful lamps out of recycled glass bottles. It's always amazing to see what new designs she comes up with.

Spring Potty Training

With spring finally in the air it's time to begin another season at the Kerr house. It's actually a season that is ready to start again - potty training time.

I've been waiting very anxiously for F to be ready to potty train and she is just about there. As we get started, here are some of my favorite tips that I learned from the boys. While they are fresh on my mind I figured I would share.

1. Try to potty train when it's warm. I like to leave my kids either bare butt or with just undies and it seems a little extra mean to do that during the cold months of winter.
2. Set a timer. Yes, we all loose track of time, setting a timer is an easy way to make sure that your child is going potty. When we first start we use the Pampered Chef Clock Timer so I can remind the little one to go potty on a regular basis. Later on we switch to the Itzbeen Personal Baby Care Timer so I can keep track of how long since they last went and encourage them to go if it's been too long.
3. Build a reward system. Every child is different but by this point in your child's life you probably have a pretty good idea of what motivates them. At our house each of our children has had a different reward for successfully using the potty. Some things we have used are treats, stickers, and "potty dances". All can be fun!
4. Plan to stay home. For many of us this is the hard part but if you can plan 3-7 days to stay home with your child during the beginning of this time things will go a whole lot smoother. Simple things like automatically flushing toilets and bathrooms that aren't conveniently located can throw a wrench in the best potty training techniques.
5. Invest in a stool that works. This is the one piece of equipment that you shouldn't go without. Everyone has different opinions on small potty chairs vs. potty seats for the big toilet but at some point your child will transition to a regular toilet and having a good stool is an important part of that transition. At our house we have used the Little Looster with great success.

No matter the age or your parenting style, potty training can be a difficult but rewarding stage of life. A New Read for Kids

It's time to get back to reading at the Kerr house. It's been fun this year because B has turned into an excellent reader. Recently we have been trying to find new books for him to read to keep his vocabulary growing.

This week we tried out "I'm Dreaming About..." by Dan Jackson. It's a cute book all about cats - which we loved! Some of the words were a little more difficult for B but we got through it and it is a book we will be keeping around for future reading times for sure!

Nursery Wars! #Giveaway

Get ready for this year's Nursery Wars hosted by Babee Talk! A lot of thought and hard work goes into baby's nursery so we wanted to give you a chance to show off your design! Whether simple, modern, fun, playful, or unique, submit your nursery photo below to be part of this year's Nursery Wars contest. (The photo can even be from the past too; all nursery photos are welcomed.)
On April 1st, Babee Talk will assign each photo a number and create a board on Pinterest where people can repin, like, share to Facebook, and comment to vote for your nursery photo. Top FOUR photos win! Over 30 must have prizes for mom and baby so far and they’re adding more each week!
Plus, as an incentive to get people to vote for their favorite nursery photo, one voter will randomly be selected to win a prize pack, too!

Contest Rules:
1. You must submit your photo by March 31st to be eligible to enter the contest.
2. Submitted photo MUST BE YOUR OWN!
3. Only one entry per person is allowed.
4. Once the photo is submitted you agree to give Babee Talk permission to alter the photo in any way (for example, add a number to the photo for voting purposes) and post it on social media and the Babee Talk website.
5. In order for the entry to be valid, you must submit your photo by filling out the form on the entry page (link below).
6. Contest sponsors and participating brands are not eligible to win.

Once all entry photos are received, Babee Talk will upload each photo to a board on Pinterest called "Baby Nursery Design Ideas". Credit for each photo will be given to the person who submitted the photo. To vote for their favorite nursery, fans will like/repin/comment on the photo entry using hashtag #nurserywars. The photos with the most likes/comments/repins on Pinterest will each win a prize pack. Four winners will be chosen.
