Day 20 - A Hobby

One little known fact about me is that I work with the local humane society. I have been on their board of directors and also volunteer both at the adoption center and as a foster parent. It is a very rewarding experience for myself, the animal, and my family. These are a few of the close to 100 animals we have fostered in the last 2 years.

Dexter was a great ball of fluff. He was a sweetheart and found a wonderful home in Washington state.

Sneezy was one of our 7 Dwarf kittens. He was a black ball of fluff in a litter of short haired calico cats. He also found a great home.

This is Roxy. She was such a sweetheart and lived with us for about 3 months. She found the perfect home however and we get to see her from time to time as she now lives with my uncle and is spoiled rotten!

This is Licorice. She was one of our litter of 15 candy puppies. They were found by a passerby as some children tried to drown them in the river. We found them all great homes and they are all doing well.

Foster is such a rewarding experience and I'm so glad I get to participate. If you'd like to know more about helping the animals in your area or adopting a new best friend please feel free to contact me and I will do all I can to help. And don't forget to spay or neuter your pet!

  2. Wow, you have fostered a lot of animals. I wish I could take in more to foster but don't have the room. I am planning on volunteering at a local shelter nearby.

  3. They are all adorable. Good for you, fostering is so important and not always easy. We've done it a few times and it's tremendously rewarding.

  4. I'd love to foster, but my husband doesn't have the constitution for it, as he falls in love with everything. Finally had to hang it up a couple of years ago when when of the wee ill ones we were caring for died. I'm also on the board of a companion animal nonprofit. Volunteering is good for the soul.

Thanks for the photos. Those are some lovely babies you found homes for.

  6. When we read the part about the children trying to drown the puppies in the river, we almost collectively threw up! Where would little kids learn something like that? How sad for them. How great that the puppies were rescued, though! Trixie also started out as a foster dog... but Mama and Gramma were "foster failures" and kept her!
